8 AI power words, explained in plain words
By Len Travers, Co founder, Spoollie · October 20, 2026 · 5 minute read
AI works best when you give it a clear job. One short word at the start of your question can do that. These are called power words.
Some of these words sound hard, like Socrates or premortem. They are not. Each one below tells you what it means in plain words, and gives you a prompt to copy and paste.
Swap the [BRACKETS] for your own details. Then use the prompt in ChatGPT, Claude, Muse, or any AI you like. The first eight are from our reel. The last four are your bonus.
ELI5: Explain it like I am 5
ELI5: [TOPIC]. Use short, easy words and one example from everyday life.
ELI5 is short for explain it like I am 5. Your AI answers in plain words, the way you would teach a child.
- Use it when an answer sounds like a textbook.
- Ask for an example from your own business, like a bakery or a gym.
- Paste the easy version into your caption and trim it.
Easy words get saved and shared. Hard words get skipped.
80/20: The few things that matter most
80/20: What are the 2 or 3 things that matter most for [GOAL]? Skip the rest.
80/20 means a small part of your work gives most of your results. Your AI picks the few things worth your time.
- Use it when your to do list feels too long.
- Ask which one thing to do first today.
- Check it again each week. What matters most can change.
Do the top one before you start on the others.
SOCRATES: Learn by answering questions
Socrates: Help me think through [PROBLEM]. Ask me one question at a time. Wait for my answer before the next one.
Socrates was a wise teacher from Greece long ago. He taught by asking questions instead of giving answers. Your AI does the same.
- Use it when you feel stuck and do not know why.
- Answer each question in one or two lines.
- Ask for a short summary of what you decided at the end.
Say your answers out loud first. You will find your own ideas faster.
PREMORTEM: Find problems before they happen
Premortem: Pretend my [POST OR PLAN] flopped. List the 5 most likely reasons why. Then tell me how to fix each one before I post.
A premortem means you pretend your plan already failed, then ask why. You fix the problems before they happen.
- Use it before you post, launch, or send an email.
- Ask for the top three reasons only, so it is not too much.
- Fix the easiest one first.
Save the list. Look at it again when your post is done.
DEVIL'S ADVOCATE: Argue the other side
Devil's advocate: Here is my idea: [IDEA]. Argue against it. Tell me what could go wrong and what I might be missing.
A devil's advocate argues against you on purpose. It is not mean. It shows you what you cannot see yet.
- Use it when everyone around you says your idea is great.
- Ask for the strongest point against you, then answer it.
- If your idea still feels good, post it with more confidence.
Do not take it personally. You asked for the other side.
REMIX: Make new versions of one post
Remix: Turn this one post into a reel script, a carousel, and a short caption: [PASTE POST].
A remix is a new version of something you already made. One good idea can become many posts.
- Start with your best post from the last month.
- Ask for a different hook on each version.
- Spread them out over the week so they do not all land at once.
Your followers do not see everything. Posting a good idea twice is fine.
ROLEPLAY: Pretend to be someone else
Roleplay: Act as my customer, who is [DESCRIBE THEM]. Read my draft. Tell me what you like, what is confusing, and what would make you buy: [PASTE DRAFT].
Roleplay means your AI pretends to be someone. Here it acts like your customer and gives you honest feedback.
- Describe your customer in two or three lines.
- Ask what question they would want answered first.
- Change your draft and run it again.
The more real details you give about your customer, the better the feedback.
SCORE: Give my draft a grade
Score: Grade my draft from 1 to 10 for hook, clarity, and next step. Then rewrite the weakest part: [PASTE DRAFT].
Score means your AI grades your work and says why. Then it helps fix the part that scored lowest.
- Run it before you schedule anything.
- Only fix the lowest score. Do not rewrite it all.
- Run it again until you reach an 8 or higher.
Ask it to explain each score in one line. That is where you learn.
TLDR: Bonus. A very short summary
TLDR: Sum this up in 3 short lines, then tell me the one thing I should do next: [PASTE TEXT].
TLDR is short for too long, did not read. Your AI squeezes a long text into a few lines.
- Use it on long emails, articles, and reports.
- Ask for the one thing to do next.
- Paste the summary into your notes.
Read the short version first. Then decide if the long one is worth your time.
CHECKLIST: Bonus. A list to tick off
Checklist: Make a checklist for [TASK]. Put the steps in order. Keep each step under 8 words.
A checklist is a list of steps you tick off one by one. It keeps you from forgetting things.
- Make one for posting day, like cover, caption, and time.
- Save it and use it every week.
- Ask your AI to add anything you forgot.
Short steps are easier to finish. Keep each one small.
STEP BY STEP: Bonus. One small move at a time
Step by step: Show me how to [GOAL] like I have never done it before. Number each step and tell me how long it takes.
Step by step means one small move at a time. Your AI numbers every step so you always know what comes next.
- Use it for something new, like a first reel.
- Ask what tools you need before you start.
- Do step one right now, then come back for step two.
Start the first step today. Small starts beat big plans.
PROS AND CONS: Bonus. The good and the bad
Pros and cons: I am choosing between [OPTION A] and [OPTION B] for my business. Give me the good and the bad of each. Then tell me which one you would pick and why.
Pros are the good sides. Cons are the bad sides. Your AI lines them up so a choice feels easier.
- Use it for choices like which channel to start with.
- Add your budget and your time so the answer fits you.
- Make the final call yourself. The list is only help.
If the answer feels wrong, tell your AI why. It will try again.
A simple way to use them
- Monday: Use SOCRATES to decide what to post about.
- Tuesday: Use 80/20 to pick the one idea that matters most.
- Wednesday: Use ELI5 to write it in easy words.
- Thursday: Use ROLEPLAY and SCORE to test your draft.
- Friday: Use REMIX to turn your best post into a reel, a carousel, and a caption.
